Get a scents of our story — where we started and where we’re going!
Back in 2004, our founder Jeff Sherwood received a call from Florist’s Transworld
Delivery (FTD), a 100+ year old floral retailer and wholesaler, with a scent-sational
challenge: floral bouquets just didn’t have enough natural scent anymore and were
losing their aroma due to bio-engineering and long-distance shipping.
And what’s the first thing we all do when we get flowers? We sniff them, of course! So,
Jeff set out to bring back that delightful floral fragrance.
After much trial and error, Jeff came up with an
elegant solution: A green paper stick infused
with natural scent.
And guess what?
It worked like a charm. In fact, it
smelled exactly like the real thing.
Smelling the potential, Jeff started thinking about other ways this new scented stick
could help restore natural scents, and the idea for artificial Christmas trees came
about − and thus Scentsicles was born.
To start, Jeff and his family started making Scentsicles by hand and selling them to
small gift shops, but in 2009, Walmart contacted the company asking to test
Scentsicles in 500 stores and the rest as they say is history.
Now a subsidiary of National Tree Company (since October 2022), Scentsicles has the
backing of the leading wholesaler of artificial Christmas trees and seasonal décor
behind it. Today, Scentsicles is sold at retailers across the US, Canada, Mexico, Europe,
Latin America, Australia and beyond.
As the team at Scentsicles carries the baton handed by the Sherwoods, everything we do is
driven by a singular purpose – to foster connections through the power of authentic scent.
We understand how scent can transport us back to happy memories shared with loved
ones and transform our spaces to be more cozy, warm and inviting. Nothing does this like
scent that is grounded in nature, rooted in the outdoor plants you smelled as a child or the
spices your grandmother baked with during the holidays. That’s why it’s so important to us
that all of our scents smell like the real thing, are made from the real thing – and take you
back to the scents you fell in love with as a kid.
And because we also love the earth that gave us these amazing scents, we take care in the
products we make and the packaging we select, always favoring more sustainable options
when they’re available and focusing on recyclability of both product and packaging, from
FSC-certified paper to post-consumer recycled content in our packaging.
